My research very broadly explores how culture and emotional norms profoundly shape rule-violating and rule-abiding behavior. Before pursuing my PhD, I spent a decade working in Saudi Arabia, where I became deeply fascinated by the cultural and collective emotional forces that influence when and why it is acceptable to break rules or necessary to follow them. Specifically, I’m interested in how culture and collective emotion shape why people engage in deviance and how people respond to rule-breaking both emotionally and behaviorally.
